Video games are the strongest resale category in media, and it isn't close. Based on 627,484 eBay sales in the last 90 days, the median game sold for $18.00, and 77.8% of games sold for $10 or more. Games also move fast: there are only about 2.8 active listings per sale, the healthiest supply-demand ratio of any media category we track.

What games actually sell
- Almost everything. Games hold value better than any other media type
- Complete-in-box retro games (GameCube, N64, PS1/PS2, Game Boy)
- Nintendo first-party titles from any generation
- JRPGs, horror, and niche titles with small print runs
- Working consoles and controllers, even with wear
- Strategy guides and original manuals sold on their own
What doesn't sell
- Sports games from past seasons (Madden, FIFA, 2K): a dollar each, forever
- Shovelware and licensed movie tie-in games from the Wii/DS era
- Greatest Hits reprints of games with huge print runs
- Disc-only copies of common games
What to look for
- Any GameCube, N64, or PS2 game with the case and manual
- Nintendo anything. It holds value across every generation
- Games still sealed in shrink wrap
- Consoles at garage sales. Even broken ones sell for parts
How condition affects price
Complete-in-box is the magic phrase: case, manual, and cartridge or disc together can be worth double a loose copy. Sealed copies are a collector market of their own. For cartridges, test if you can, because 'untested' cuts the price.
Shipping
Games are small and light, so shipping is cheap and easy. Video games do NOT qualify for Media Mail. Use First-Class/Ground Advantage instead. Still only a few dollars for a boxed game.
Common questions
Are old video games worth money?
Very often, yes. The median eBay game sale is $18, and 43.6% of games sold for $20 or more in the last 90 days. Retro Nintendo and PlayStation titles are the most consistent, but even common games usually clear $10.
How do I check what my games are worth?
Photograph the stack or shelf with Flippr. It identifies each game and shows eBay sold prices and sell-through rates, so you can price a whole collection in one scan instead of searching title by title.
Do video games sell fast?
Fastest of any media category we track, at about 2.8 active listings per sale over the last 90 days. Priced against real sold comps, most games move quickly.
Should I sell games individually or as a lot?
Individually for anything worth $10+, which is most games. Lots make sense for shovelware and sports titles where listing effort would eat the profit.
